Validators of the program of substitution of illicit crops in Vichada Colombia

-The program to substitute coca crops started in August 2012 at the Inspections of Werima, Chupave and Puerto Prince (high Vichada).

-Due to the lack of road infrastructure for the transport of agricultural and livestock products, the optimal condition of the soils and the climate, in consensus with the Vichada government, the Mayor of Cumaribo and the peasant settlers, it was decided to grow COCOA, as the agricultural product to replace coca illicit crops.

- Through a teamwork among the community of Vichada and different institutions from the goverment we created activities about the importance of the family, its principles, values, the environment, and putting into practice human rights, freedom and democracy, which make it possible to prevent problems in the community; also to structure good practices in the construction of a more united, participatory society with a sense of belonging for a Colombia in Pace.

-The program began with the sensitization to the farmers in each of the inspections to voluntarily abandon and eradicate the coca crops, then with the support of the Vichada Government, the Mayor of Cumaribo, FEDECACAO and Casa Luker, 24  peasants were trained  in agricultural practices in Cocoa.

-Currently, other institutions such as the Presidency of the Republic and the United Nations are part of the team.

Goals:

- Cocoa harvests of excellent quality.

- Greater awareness of the importance of having a legal crop.
